Update (Aug 17,2013): Testing Samsung Kies on MS Windows 7. The Samsung Kies connects after a while or only intermittently. Please see the comments below for possible solutions.
Samsung mobile phone users are familiar with this error. Kies is a personal computer sync software that enables you manage your Samsung phone, similar to iTunes software for Apple iPhones. Samsung Kies software refuses to connect your device and gives this cryptic message.
Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode. Current connection Mode not supported by Kies
Spent an hour raking my brains, then the obvious solution presented itself. Turn off USB Debugging Mode. You will find this setting under Settings > Applications > Development.
Visual Guide to Android USB Development Settings
Samsung Kies software uses MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) mode to talk to your Android device. Enabling USB debugging setting changes your android device to use USB transfer mode.
Didn't work for me. Now I DO get the "cryptic message" as stated above. As I did not get the message before. Still not able to connect either before or after this "fix". What else to try?
ReplyDelete@strider :et me guess, Make sure that the USB driver is installed properly.
ReplyDeleteSearching for Kies Samsung USB drivers on google will get you started on this.
USE SETTINGS-PC CONNECTIONS-ASK ONE CONNECTION
DeleteThis worked for me
ReplyDelete1. Unplug the USB cable
2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284# Once the last # is hit,
the PhoneUtil application is launched.
Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode.
The good mode should be PDA.
Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.
3. Plug the USB cable.
Now Kies should be able to find your phone..

Does not work for me phone GT-C3350. Samsung obviously know that there is an non-applicable program so they launched new version of Kies 2.3.2.12064-9, but no success. I now only got the message that the device is not supported. Janez

DeleteThe solution that worked for me on my Galaxy S was settings>wireless and network>usb settings>Samsung Kies and make sure it has kept this setting. Steve
DeleteHours of frustration solved. Thanks to Roy.
DeleteWorked for me too. Thanks Roy!! Mine was already set to PDA, so as Roy suggested I dialled the number, changed to Modem, exited, put the number back in again and changed it to PDA.
DeleteSamsung Galaxy W.

DeleteMy phone was already set to "PDA" but switching to "Modem", exiting, redialing, switching back to "PDA" seems to have done the trick.

DeleteThank you, thank you, thank youuuuu...worked like a charm on my GT-I9070!! :))
DeleteTHANK U ,VERY MUCH WORKED FOR ME JAIHIND
DeleteAfter pulling my hair out for the last 24 hours Roy's little trick has worked for my SG2X! Kies would simply not connect to my phone. PLEASE CONNECT DEVICE is burned into the back of my eye balls for the rest of my life! I will concur with everyone one else out there who is quite angry Kies just doesn't work properly right after install on all samsung phones. Its just not acceptable to have users scour the internet trying to fix connection issues. I urge users to take the time now that your device is working with KIES to let Samsung know they need to do a better job of making their software work. They make great hardware, don't neglect software portion!
DeleteWorks for my GT-I8190,, thanks
DeleteDidn't worked for me for GT-I9100.
DeleteThanks for the tip, Roy
ReplyDeleteThat solved my problem. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteKies software is the problem because it is resource hungry and wants to use over 100% of my 2.3 ghz cpu and consequently hangs and crashes. Samsung specs require only 1.8 ghz cpu and 500 mb ram so they need to fix this.
ReplyDeletewatch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJFlD859iq0
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video :)
DeleteHope the link doesn’t get blocked, but I wrote-up a tutorial on how to fix this from another angle, and haven’t seen it anywhere else. : ) Here you go, http://cmpstuff.blogspot.com/2012/06/another-method-to-make-samsung-kies.html
ReplyDeleteI sold my NOTE because of this problem could not be solved by samsung support
ReplyDeleteYou are so right I hate Samsung they just want to sell but no customer service at all! and they dont have my trust
Deletehow do you solve the connection problem between kies and a galaxy tablet? the kies program starts as soon as i connect eh device but the program does not see the device.
ReplyDeletehow do you fix the connection problem between kies and a samsung galaxy tablet
ReplyDeleteThe trick above (*#7284#) worked perfectly for my Kies connection problem with Galaxy SII Skyrocket! Thanks!
ReplyDeletethank you. My provider couldn't solve the problem, and no response from Samsung, but this has just solved it for me. Well done
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Annie, Support staff at phone service providers are not well informed about these problems.
Deletehello andre here i have a galaxy s 3.I don't get that message.the phone just doesn't connect without the message and I tried the phone utility thing I can't push between modem and pda it just stays on pda won't budge i can go to usb settings but i don't know what to do. can anyone help
ReplyDeleteMy phone did connect to kies one time. does any one have a galaxy s3 with these problems? by I'm using a mac.
ReplyDeleteTurning OFF USB Debugging did the trick for me when nothing else would. Now backing up my S2 Galaxy to my netbook.
ReplyDeleteI know that there are many Samsung users that are still struggling with connecting your phone to your computer through Samsung Kies. Here is another method to fix your connection woes.
ReplyDeletecheck your pull down menu on your phone when you start kies and plug in the usb, be sure the usb settings on the phone is connected as a media (mtp)device not a set to Camera (PTP)
ReplyDeleteSamsung obviously tried to solve the problem, but with no success. They launched new Kies 2.3.2.12064_9 but still the program said that the device (mobile GT-C3350) is not supported. On teh phone but signs a message that it is connected by USB cable.
ReplyDeleteWorked for me too. Thanks Roy!
ReplyDeleteKies sees my phone but only shows contacts, can't back-up upgrade or anything else.
ReplyDeleteWorked for me just fine! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe issue I experienced (Windows 7 & 8-CP & 8-RP) was an reference error thrown in .Net 4 Runtime (reported in "Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application" as two error level logs). Running it under .Net 2 worked for me (after a .Net 3.5 update). Instructions and credit at: http://ramspensieve.blogspot.com/2011/11/fix-firmware-upgrade-crash-using.html
ReplyDeleteGot the same error.
ReplyDeleteDisconneted the cable
Selected Settings - Wireless and network - USB setting
Changed selection to Samsung KIES (was mass storage).
Conneted the cable.
Work OK.
THANKS so much for !!! This is exactly what was needed for my Galaxy Player 4.2, GingerBread.
DeleteThank you very much, that is what I was looking for for my player, I am not sure why the player is not set up from the factory to operate as a player and have music put on it. I wish that they would work with zune for a music program as zune is far better than Kies as far as ease of use and seting up the player.
DeleteThanks. The USB setting was my problem.
Deletethanks, that fixed it!
DeleteWhy don't Samsung sack the person in charge of Kies and appoint someone who can design and run a satisfactory system?
ReplyDeleteSuch long period of time, Kies still so many bugs and channel allow users to report the issues?
DeleteHey guys I am so sick of Kies really I wish they care!!! Samsung is making so much money they dont see this as a major problem but i promise this will be my last Samsung thing!!
DeleteI have a Note GT 7000. Had to get it replaced because of a software problem. But Keis is the real nightmare. Samsung seem to want to sell phones as toys not as tools. I don't want music or poictures. I want files, calenders and contacts. I can't tell you how many times my IT guy as reinstalled the programme.
DeleteMy tip. Buy HTC their sync programme is first class. You can sync anything you wanht to reliably and easilt. Phone is not bad either and now we have these new rubber pad styluses the NBOte's onlt plus is its size.
Agree that Samsung is crap. When I went to their live chat for support the guy said install on a different PC (as if we all have several just hanging around to debug their crappy software). I went out of my way just to be sure and had the same problems on PC #2. Kies simply doesn't work. What a piece of crap. This phone was given to me by work but good to know as I'll never buy Samsung for personal!
DeleteI also have a GT-7000, Kies didn't work for a long time but until yesterday I was able to use a 'wifi transfer' app to do the trick, but now suddenly not even this works anymore, don't give no error message, simply stops the up/down of any file larger than 50k... :/
DeleteI had the same problme but Samsung tols me the opposite - they said to turn USB debugging ON. I will try that and report back.
ReplyDeletereporting back. Of course the Samsung support people were out to lunch. The last Samsung tech in the Live Chat forum (Martin K?) told me I had to turn on USB Debugging, but when I tried that, I got the following error:
ReplyDeleteReconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) Mode. Check the USB settings. (Settings ->Applications ->Development ->USB Debugging (x))
Silly me thinking that Samsung Support techs might be able to help me. I tried installing Kies on three different computers, and none will work to update my Galaxy Tab Galaxy tab GT-P1000M. What a supremely hopeless app Kies is.
Hi.. Just a thank you to whoever.. Roy ? as this worked for me of Galaxy S11 4G
ReplyDelete1. Unplug the USB cable
2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284# Once the last # is hit,
the PhoneUtil application is launched.
Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode.
The good mode should be PDA.

3. Plug the USB cable.
Thanks

ReplyDeleteInstalled Kies , USB drivers , rebooted pc , connected usb cable. Didn't work....much head scratching then Bazzinga!!!!
Unplug usb cable , SWITCH OFF PHONE , REBOOT / TURN PHONE BACK ON.
RECONNECT USB CABLE AND VOILA' , IT WORKS PERFECTLY.
GO FIGURE.
Working 100% every time now.
Try this first.
This did the trick for me!! go figure....just reboot the device >.<
Deleteworked for me too GT-n700
Deletethanks a lot
Thanks, this was the only thing of all the above that has worked for my Galaxy Mini :)))
DeleteThank you! That worked for me after trying many other options suggested.
DeleteWill only work via wi-fi, tried all the above to no avail. This all worked fine until the last firmware upgrade, then went all wrong. Kies is all everyone said it was....... Crap!
ReplyDeleteI am not able to open samsung apps. Its displaying "not able to connect.Try again".Plz help me
ReplyDeleteWorked for me model GT-19100 , many thanks
ReplyDeleteI downloaded the new version of Samsung Kies yesterday and now it is saying Samsung Kies has stopped working and windows is checking for a solution for the problem. Can anyone help me i have a lot of precious photos in this folder that i don't want to loose.
ReplyDeleteThis post and the comments will try to help you fix the Samsung Kies software. If this doesn't work there are other ways to transfer your precious photos to your computer.
DeleteHow to backup your Android data

ReplyDeleteSamsung Kies is not showing the Samsung Apps under Store!!!

ReplyDeleteI have samsung galaxy S2. My contacts keep getting deleted. When i tried instaaling an update for the kies software the following error appears "Kies update cannot proceed because of network error. Please check your network status and try again." I tried re-installing the software but the same error appears. And now another one appears saying " recoonect the samsung kies in PC mode" I tried USB debuggig, 7284 but none seem to work. The software is also not detecting the phone.
ReplyDeletePlease help
I used KIES when I bought my Galaxy about a year ago. Since doing an Upgrade, my phone somehow does not see my photos anymore, as I am trying to save them to my pc. At least it connects properly. Can anyone help?
ReplyDeleteThanks
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem on my Galaxy Ace GT S5830i and to say it is frustrating to get the KIES application to work is an understatement.
However the advice at the top of the screen re Android USB Developement Settings worked for me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tam
Kies was disconnected during Firmware update of my Galaxy S.2. Was not able to connect again via USB.
ReplyDeleteThe Phone is stucked with a message: Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select
recovery mode in Kies & try again.
This is not possible as the phone cannot be operated or turned off even if battery is removed
and replaced. The same "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select
recovery mode in Kies & try again." message is on the display.
WHAT TO DO ???
Galaxy Tab GT-P7500, will not connect on multiple computers. Want to back up files before trying restoring device. Any other applications that can manage this task since Kies is obvious crap?
ReplyDeleteGalaxy Tab GT-P7500, will not connect on multiple computers. Want to back up files before trying restoring device. Any other applications that can manage this task since Kies is obvious crap?
ReplyDeleteok tried the few things here, then tried a few old school tricks. and here is what worked for me.
ReplyDelete>plug phone into the usb.
>open your device manager. (right click "My computer" too get too device manager).
>in device manager goto "Universal serial bus controllers" right click on "Samsung mobile composite device", select properties.
>click driver tab, and uninstall.
Now
>in device manager goto "SAMSUNG Andriod Phone", right click on "Samsung Andriod ADB Interface", select properties.
>click driver tab, and uninstall.
unplug phone wait 60 seconds and plug back in.
it should now be working.
I did so , but the Computer won't read the device again ?? Help !!!
DeleteThanks it worked for me............
DeleteAbhilash
Anyone out there have a Samsung galaxy ace duo's?? Can't connect to kies also. Since this has been such an ongoing issue someone's head needs to roll at Samsung lol.
ReplyDeletetrying to fix my girl friends phone... i am so glad i stayed with blackberry.
ReplyDelete@ Roy - i tried your #7284# but i do not think it works on the s3. Thanks though
thanks, that did the trick
ReplyDeletei have a samsung captivate glide and it keeps saying "your device does not support upgrading via Kies". I have tried all the options i can find but so far nothing. I like Samsung but this is making me really change my mind.
ReplyDeleteAfter trying all above things i was not able to connect S2 with Kies
ReplyDeleteThen i found USB computer connection in ongoing procedures...
in that i changed connect as to "Media device (MTP) " ..
n bingo!!! :)
hope these will help u... :)
kies is the worst phone-to-PC connection software i have used. will not detect my galaxy tab and troubleshooting only reinstalls drivers. on some kies versions, the reinstall works, on some, drivers are completely broken. will not buy samsung again.
ReplyDeletemine dont work either.get it sorted FFS
ReplyDeletegoing to have to transfer music from usb pen to my girlfriends laptop then transfer blue tooth. This is not fair for a phone that was not cheap and a company thats worth millions they should have this issue sorted by now.either get it sorted or i wont be buying any more of your products..i have all your products..tv ect.sort this issue out please!
ReplyDeleteI had connection problem with Galaxy S Advance (Windows 7 x64). I solved it as follows:
ReplyDelete1. turn USB Debugging on
2. connect usb cable
3. allow windows to install drivers for new devices (if it does not find point to where you have samsung drivers)
4. disconnect cable
5. turn USB Debugging off
6. connect usb cable
After I could see samsung modem driver in addition to GT-I9070 connected to USB in device manager and Kies connects ok.
Rebooting the Galaxy S did it for me!
ReplyDeleteI tried to install the phones programme on my computer but it comes up with "Found new hardware MTP Device" and keeps popping up every 5 seconds and won´t let me install it.also Kies air dos´nt do anything.Help!!!!
ReplyDelete13.09.2012;
ReplyDeleteUSE ORIGINAL USB-CABLE!!!!
I sat 2 hours trying with my usb-cable (not original) before almost giving up.
Then when I found the original cable from the Samsung-box, I decided to try it.
WORKED AT ONCE! Have NO clue as to why it didn't work with "unoriginal cable", but nevermind - it works with the original cable! No biggie' :)!
mine now works after unintsaling alot of stuff i didnt need on my pc.but iv dropped the phone 4 times in 1 week..this is the 2nd time i getting a new one sent by insurance which is costing me 25 pounds..any one know of any decent cases?but yer kies works for me now.:) sorted! (Scott)
ReplyDeletejust restart your phone after driver installation and it will work .... stupid Samsung never put that little detail in your instructions -.-'
ReplyDeletetried all the above
ReplyDeleteyou know what worked at last? reverting back to using the original Samsung cable! i realised i was using a different one. something basic, but simple, thought would share with you.
one solution, plug phone to pc with usb-cable and change at your computer device manager samsung usb modem com port to another. Helps MTP driver problem.
ReplyDeleteGood try ..but no, it didn't work. My son-in-law can download pics from my phone ( well, it used to be his ! ) but my efforts are hit + miss. No similar problems with my Samsung camera; SORT THIS OUT please.
ReplyDeleteGood try but it didn't work. My son-in-law can usually manage to download pics from my phone ( well it used to be his) but he lives miles away; my efforts are hit + miss. Why should it be so difficult? No similar probs with my Samsung camera so it must be Kies?? Sort this out please !
ReplyDeleteIf you just need to download your pictures from phone to pc use Airdroid. You can use your internet browser to access the pictures!
Deletethank you roy, pulled all my hair very little left, now finally fixed.
DeleteWorked for me on a P1000 Tab, many thanks
DeleteI have had a similar problem with my new Galaxy SIII (SGH-I747M). After much struggle I finally got it to load and recognize the phone the first time I installed Kies. Unfortunately, I am not sure which of the many things I tried finally dd the trick.
ReplyDeleteSo today, with no small amount of trepidation, I allowed Kies to install and update - Guess what? You got it! The problem about the mtp device driver failing to load came back!
Now the good news, I tried Roy's suggestion about switching the USB mode from "PDA" (where it was at) to "Modem" and then back to "PDA". I then started Kies, waited for it to load and ask me to connect the device. I plugged the phone to the USB, the drivers loaded and the phone was recognized. A perfect fix!
Thanks you Roy and let's hope Samsung gets this figured out in a future release of Kies. I can only imagine how many man-years (literaly) of time have been wasted by people around the world trying to get around this issue!
TJ
I tried it and it's working.thanx for the post....
ReplyDeleteSamsung Galaxy Ace
i got it to work then my kies crashed -_-
ReplyDeleteMaybe this helps you as it helps for me: (from http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/9006-Kies-connection-problem
ReplyDelete"It was some sort of hangup in the phone. Restarting didn't help but pulling the battery out and then restarting did the trick. Kies now working OK."
Guys I just looked at my galaxy player pissed as hell too. But I felt kinda dumb after I went to the wifi settings and change my usb connection mode to kies from storage.
ReplyDeleteWith my Galaxy Apollo (I5800) I encountered the same problem on a few systems, on one system I got Kies working, but after an upgrade of Kies it no longer did work, so downgraded again and it worked again... The same version on another computer failed all the time... same goes for new updates... tried Windows XP Pro, Windows 7 Enterprise and desktop notebook and all the tips above... but still no recognition of my I5800... also used original cable at home as well as non-original cable but with same results... so those for who the above worked... you have won a lotery so it seems!
ReplyDeleteNothing (including the USB debugging etc) worked for my wifes GT-I9000. Finally, i went to the phone USB settings and selected Kies instead of USB storage, and it connected seamlessly without that "pc studio mode error"
ReplyDeleteI had Kies connection problem with Galaxy S Advance (Windows 7 x64). I solved it as follows:
ReplyDeleteFolowing Roy advice...
"1. Unplug the USB cable"
"2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284# Once the last # is hit,
the PhoneUtil application is launched.
Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode.
The good mode should be PDA.
Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA."
"3. Plug the USB cable."
and... nothing
4. Reboot phone.
5. Plug the USB cable.
Working now
Hi Guys, This solution works for me. Thanks...
DeleteI can't find the USB Debugging in my Samsung Omnia 2 :/ help?
ReplyDeleteSamsung Captivate Glide SGH-i927 >>
ReplyDeleteTried the following, which either didn't work at all or worked sporadically...
- uninstall & reinstall Kies & USB drivers
- uninstall latest Kies v2.5.0.12094_28_8 & reinstalled older version, v2.3.3.12085_7_5
- disable USB debug mode
- Kies own "troubleshoot connection" for USB
What did work was a combo of:
1. Ensure Kies Desktop on PC is NOT running & phone is NOT plugged into USB.
2. Dial *#7284# to open PhoneUtil.
3. Change the USB portion to "modem". (Deselect then reselect if it's already set.)
4. Back out/exit PhoneUtil to ensure settings are saved.
5. Go to Settings > Applications > Development > Enable USB debugging mode. (Deselect then reselect if it's already checked.)
6. Back out/exit to the Home screen to ensure settings are saved.
7. Dial *#7284# to open PhoneUtil again.
8. Change the USB portion to "PDA."
9. Now back out/exit out of PhoneUtil to ensure settings are saved.
10. Go to Settings > Applications > Development > Disable USB debug mode.
11. Back out/exit to the Home screen to ensure settings are saved.
12. Turn off/reboot phone.
13. Start Kies Desktop on PC & wait for it to finish loading.
14. Plug phone into PC via USB. PC should recognize/connect to phone at this time, may take a minute or two to load/update the screen.
Two days in store with T-mobile - 4 calls to Samsung - both pointing me in the direction of the other.....THIS WORKED! Thank you so much!!!
DeleteThe important thing I found was to reboot the phone after changing settings. GT-I9000M
ReplyDeleteAfter looking through tons of sites bitching about Kies and providing no working solution for me your blog sorted my problem. Thank you
ReplyDeleteThank you! :D
ReplyDeletegt-p7500 and ive tried em all but nothing worked
ReplyDeleteThis blog is truly awesome in all aspects. root galaxy S III
ReplyDeleteI finally got kies to work even with runtime error when install.....I read so many people with solutions and trying help....I forgot where I finally got this solution and from who..thx to him...I reinstall the "SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe" then everythings work....I have a s2lte i727r...
ReplyDeleteFix worked OK for our Galaxy Ace 2 (GT-I8160) + Galaxy S Advance (GT-I9070).
ReplyDeleteKies, running on Win7 /32, connected ok to the phones but after having uploaded the contact lists, it never connected again. However in Win Explorer I could still see and copy files to/from the phone folders (pics, mp3, etc).
I have used the longer fix (original cable, USB debugging off, *#7284#, reboot phone!!) (see Roy’s tip at the very top, and write-up of Anonymous on Oct.30). These factory phone setting were already fine on my phones, but seemingly switching them on+off and rebooting phone(!) helped.
I expect to encounter this error again, after a while or intense usage (you never know when a bit or flag gets stuck in program).
Shame that Samsung does not tackle a problem that was out for such a long time.
A hearty “thank you” to Roy and all of you who gave input!

Struggling to get my GT I9100 connected to Kies desktop.
ReplyDeleteFollowed all the tips, but no joy so far.
How to Connect S Duos to Kies over Wi-fi. Please guide.
ReplyDeleteOne could go to Settings > Wireless and Networks > USB Settings and change from 'Samsung Kies' to 'Mass storage'
ReplyDeleteWorked on GT-N7105!
ReplyDeleteMy I9100 screen is broken and Kies says that phone is not in PC mode, no way to click on anything on the phone on the broken screen. Anyway to reset options on the phone from the PC so to be able to backup it's content ?
ReplyDeleteHi Guys
ReplyDeleteI saw that many people have problems to connect Samsung to PC.
Try this, it worked well for me and Note2 (USB port driver failed every time to connect)!
Problem with driver USB for Samsung Tab2 10.1
http://www.androiddoes.net/how-to/how-to-solution-samsung-mobile-mtp-device-code-10-error-at-device-manager/
HERE’s THE SOLUTION:
1. Go to the Registry Editor (Start –> Run –>type in, “regedit” (without the quotes) then click OK.
2. Search the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\
3. Go upto Edit>Find, type in or copy/paste Portable Devices
4. In the right hand pane you will see the (Default) value “Portable Devices” on the string
5. Once found, you see a string value called UpperFilters –> delete it!
6. Finished!
7. Now your Samsung Mobile MTP Device should be recognized and even installed correctly right away.
8. Goto Device Manager open Universal Serial Bus controllers and you should see “Samsung Mobile USB Composite Device”
I've just purchased the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and when I try to connect to Kies I get the error:
ReplyDeleteReconnect the device in samsung kies (pc studio).
Current connection mode note supported by Kies.
Check the USB settings.
(Settings -> Applications -> Development - USB debugging(x))
I've tried the solutions mentioned above but nothing is working.
When in Kies and I try the USB cable connection troubleshoot, when it goes to reinstalll device driver Windows says Kies has stopped working and closes down the program.
Can anyone help?
I had to do an add'l step from Roy's instructions to get it working my on S3. Below are the complete instructions:
ReplyDelete1. Unplug the USB cable
2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284# Once the last # is hit,
the PhoneUtil application is launched.
Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode.
The good mode should be PDA.
Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.
*3. Click Qualcomm USB Settings
*4. Change to MTP
5. Plug the USB cable.
HTH
Where do we find these Setting (Qualcomm USB Settings)
DeleteThanks Roy. Worked for me too!
ReplyDeleteSimply rebooting the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 did it for me. (The USB settings were already on MTP)
ReplyDeleteJ
for my galaxy note 10.1 and windows 7
ReplyDeletein the PC:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System\device manager
No Samsung driver in USB controllers drivers found,
Select:
portable devices
right click gt-N801x
update the driver and let it find from internet.
Now the samsung mobile USB composite driver shows in USB controllers.
Restart KIES and the Galaxy and connect to USB
It's impossible to believe that Samsung is so incompetent concerning software. They need a small program to connect the telephone with a computer and they created a monster, with the size of an operating system. And it doesn't work either!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a Samsung Galaxy mini 2 and nothing is working. The Roy's method too.. when i write the code, there is no "Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode." when i press on USB it only says that "USB_diag selected" and there in nothing else to choose.. Who has SGM2 and the same problem???
ReplyDeleteExecuting the Tools -> Install Driver menu option on the Kies 2.1 version did the trick for me.
ReplyDeletethanks for share this tip
ReplyDeleteI have a galaxy s3. I cannot connect to Kies through the USB, I can however connect through the wifi!! I'm trying to update my s3 as it is on android 4.0.4, any help out there???
ReplyDeletethanks Adrian.
kies is a very bad program: it does not work at all with my Galaxy Ace mobile.
ReplyDeleteI have try differents program from Samsung : no one of them work even on differents PC's.
Samsung mobile to PC programs are very bad.
They are also very big ... and they are used for data transfer only!
A very comlicated way to solve a simple task.
Think about it!
Like a lot of people I have had connection problems and struggled to find a solution! I think I may have found one although at the time of writing this it hasn't proved faultless. I have WIN7 and decided to do a system restore to the point Kies was first installed. Following this I opened up "control panel"-"programmes and features" and then right clicked on the Samsung Kies entry and selected change. I then took the "repair" option. After this is completed reboot your pc/laptop/whatever and then try connecting again. The only thing it does't like doing at the moment is listing my contacts stored on the SIM, the contacts on my phone load fine.I think the problem in my case was to do do with the USB drivers. Best of luck.
ReplyDeletethank you, this really helped me
ReplyDeleteI have Samsung Galaxy SIII mini. I downloaded kies from samsung main site. It did not work. Then I went to support, found my phone and downloaded Kies from these support pages. It is different file and it worked ok.
ReplyDeleteI have Samsung Galaxy S Duos S7562. I want to set one meeting that always alert for me in every Wednesday. Please show me how to set this meeting? I am waiting for your reply. Thank You!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe Kies finally works. Thanks Roy. You're a genious
ReplyDeleteThere seem to be a trillion ways to get this wrong. My solution was: after conneting the phone to the PC, in the yop of the phone screen a USB-logo appears. Swipe it open and you the the choice "Connect as camera" or Connected as Mass Storage". Pick the latter and in my case I was done.
ReplyDeleteThis method worked for me thank you for the advice.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S Duos and nothing is working. The Roy's method too.. when i write the code, there is no "Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode." when i press on USB it only says that "USB_diag selected" and there in nothing else to choose.. Who has S Duos and the same problem???
ReplyDeleteSame problem dude !
Deletei have samsung galaxy note 2 i want it to sync to my laptop via wifi. please help!
ReplyDeletethanx a lot man.been scratching my head for hours.
ReplyDeleteThis fixed my problem too, USB Debugging was enabled when I setup Carbon for backing up my phone. Kies was hanging when I attempted to backup the phone so I installed Carbon on the phone and desktop. Carbon needs to use USB Debugging, and it's possible any running process of Carbon on the phone and on the desktop may interfere with Kies. I also had the phone in ptp mode so I switched back to mtp in the notification tray.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Carbon? I did a backup and unplugged USB cable before it's done! Kies was still running but no response, then the connection cannot be back to normally anymore. Have tried all possible ways but in vein....kindly advise...thanks.

After four months of trying all of the fixes in 17 forums, this was the only way that I was able to solve the Kies failure to connect with either of two Samsung phones:
ReplyDeleteStep 1 - Remove SIM card from phone
Step 2 - Place phone on ground
Step 3 - Drive car over phone
Step 4 - Repeat Step 1, 2 and 3 with each Samsung phone that you own
Step 5 - Buy as many non-Samsung phones as you need without SIM cards
Step 6 - Install SIM card(s) in new phone(s)
Step 7 - When your Samsung BluRay DVD player stops talking to your Samsung TV via HDMI port after you bought it just three months ago, throw them into the garbage and buy non-Samsung replacements
Step 8 - Enjoy life without Samsung
Amen to that. :)
DeleteThis solution worked for me
DeleteAfter one of the firmware updates, we now need to change the source using the TV remote to HDMI on our Samsung TV so we can see the Samsung DVD BluRay player

ReplyDeleteThis worked for me
ReplyDelete1.
Now Kies should be able to find your phone..
tip: do the above steps two times.. first time is not working bt second time it words...
this worked for me: perform a software update on your device
ReplyDeleteI have a Samsung Galaxy II from Virgin and I tried the USB debugging tip to no avail. Kies still would spin on "Connecting" forever without finding the device. Finally, I stumbled upon the trick. With USB connected, pull down the notification bar on the phone and select "Media device" for the USB/PC connection. Now at least Kies recognizes the device, so it's a start!
ReplyDeleteI just tried this, and finally Kies recognised my phone and I have managed to download photos. Still having problems tho with kies recognising my device for anything else.. ??
ReplyDeleteI have a Tmobile Samsung Galaxy S2, and these things just aren't working! I'm completely frustrated at this point! Kies still says that its unable to retrieve information! Blahh I'm ready to run over it with my car!
ReplyDelete...for the Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 I still think Samsung should supply the CORRECT MTP Usb-driver...end of story...
ReplyDeleteFinally, something that worked. This worked for me on the Galaxy Note II. Thank you!

ReplyDeleteI am tired! all day installing uninstalling kies air, samsung drives and now trying this no but nothing seems to work :(
Please help!!
I use S4 with Mac Book Pro. I find I have to switch Galaxy S4 off as stated earlier in this blog, thanks very much- press the side button then go to restart. Re-launch Keis. You do this every time you want to connect - it works. Only snag so far is the contacts sync crashes at 50%. Every thing else seems to work. Just need to try syncing podcasts next.
ReplyDeleteOn Mac book pro when I open Kies and connect Galaxy S4 I do not see the contacts on the phone appearing or see "contacts" in the menu to the left I was hoping to edit from their. Anyone any advice how to rectify this? On the samsung info video contacts appear in the left menu, not on mine!
ReplyDeleteNo luck using Kies to update operating system. Have Samsung Galaxy S2, SPH-D710, Android OS 4.0.4 and trying to upgrade the OS to the latest. Running newest version of Kies for the Mac. Kies will not recognize the phone using any of the above suggestions. (No problem using Kies Air running on the phone to transfer files to/from the Mac.) Any ideas for my setup would be greatly appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI am using a Samsung Galaxy S III to connect to my Windows Laptop using Kies Air. My problem is every time I try to upload a picture from a certain file, it shows my entire gallery of folders instead of the individual photos within the file I'm looking in. I can click on something and it will upload a picture but I can't tell which picture. For example, under My Pictures, if I click on my "My Family" file, it shows every folder I have under "My Pictures" instead of the individual pictures in my "My Family" file. By the way for some reason I am unable to create new folders anymore and am instead having to make briefcases. These seem to be the ones I'm having troubles with. Hope this makes sense and someone can help.
ReplyDeleteI have come to this site after trying the piece of crap Software called Kies. Just from the posts here, people have been having problems with this junk for well over a year. Its about time that SAMSUNG got rid of this crap, and the person who was in charge of developing it.
ReplyDeleteHow come when I connect my Galaxy S3 via USB, Windows finds it immediately, but Kies just sits there with a 'searching for connection'
Samsung need to replace this junk with something that works. I switched from HTC to Samsung because HTC did similar things.... and look where they are in the rankings now.... They used be at the Top.

thank you roy (you are the best)
ReplyDeleteKies is a load of crap. I refuse to spend anymore time trying to get it to work. I'm now back to my 3 year old iPhone. At least it's easy to sync with my PC.
ReplyDeleteThanks Roy, I've just sorted a Galaxy Ace with your debugging tip!
ReplyDeleteI have searched everywhere. New cable and

Thanks a lot!! After going nowhere for about an hour your steps were helpful as I was able to upgrade my phone software.
ReplyDeleteWhere do I get hold of Samsung support? I am stuck in an endless loop. Every time I connect my Galaxy Y to Kies, it automatically starts a backup that breaks Kies. I do not have time when it starts up to uncheck the automatic backup box before the backup starts and breaks Kies.
ReplyDeletewhen i dial *#7284# in my samsung galaxy s duos it has only two options 1) usb_diag 2) UART_diat but there is no PDA mode ! the trick didnt work for me ! wat should i do ? solve pls !
